Meet the Family Behind Matoskah Meadows

My name is Erica and my love for Labrador Retrievers began at just 11 years old with my first yellow Lab mix, Casey. We grew up together, and she remained by my side until the incredible age of 17.

My involvement in breeding began in 2005, assisting with breeding plans and whelping litters for a family friend’s Labrador program. Over the years, I’ve gained hands-on experience throughout the canine industry, including animal behavior, training, grooming, kennel management, veterinary assistance and canine nutrition.

In 2010, I welcomed my first litter of Labradors under my own breeding program. From that litter came my heart dog, a once-in-a-lifetime companion who remained by my side for nearly 12 years until his passing in August 2022.

After taking a few years away from breeding to get married and establish our 40-acre farm, I returned with a renewed focus on purpose-bred Labrador Retrievers. My dedication to the canine industry has also led me to become an AKC Farm Dog Certified Judge and an Approved AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Temperament Test (ATT) Evaluator.

Today, my husband, Phil and I enjoy life on our farm in Southeast Michigan, just north of Ann Arbor. Our two sons are grown and have started lives of their own. Our Labradors remain an important part of our everyday lives, sharing our home rather than living in outdoor kennels.

Beyond our dogs, we share a love for farm life and horses. I’ve been involved in the equestrian community since 1998, while Phil enjoys aviation and flying whenever time allows.

Matoskah Meadows is more than a breeding program. It’s a lifelong passion built around the animals we love and the life we share with them.
